Prof. Eckhard Lammert is professor and head of the Institute of Metabolic Physiology at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf. Since 2013 he also serves as the Director of the Institute of Vascular and Islet Cell Biology at the German Diabetes Center (DDZ). His research focuses on the interaction between organs and blood vessels, the onset of type II diabetes mellitus in connection with vascular changes and the cell-cell interactions in pancreatic islets and liver. His work has significantly advanced the knowledge on how vascular systems influence organ development and function. For his work on type II diabetes mellitus Prof. Lammert received the Paul-Ehrlich-und-Ludwig-Darmstaedter-Young-Investigator-Award in 2008 and the Research Award of the Klüh Foundation in 2013. Dr. Martin Zeeb has done his doctoral studies at the Institute of Metabolic Physiology, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany under the mentorship of Prof. Eckhard Lammert. His research focused on the mechanisms of blood vessel formation. He currently works as an editor at Springer Medizin.
